Scripture
1 Peter 3:15
The site's guiding Scripture for giving a reasoned answer with gentleness and respect.
But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you. But respond with gentleness and respect,
Prepared and gentle
The command joins readiness with reverence. Christian apologetics should be serious about truth and serious about the way an answer is given.
Where this passage comes up
- The New World Translation restores the truthJudged by its own standard of following the text, the New World Translation bends the verses about Jesus' identity in one direction, while much of it reads fairly.
- Miracles are impossibleNatural laws describe what nature does when left to itself. They cannot rule out a God who acts, so the real question about miracles is the evidence.
- The resurrection witnessesThe earliest Christian claim was public testimony from named witnesses, and any explanation of it has to cover the whole set of facts historians accept.
