Scripture
2 Timothy 4:1-5
Paul's charge to preach the word, remain ready, endure hardship, and fulfill the ministry.
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction. For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Ready in season and out of season
Paul joins readiness to faithful proclamation, correction, rebuke, encouragement, patience, and teaching. Christian answers should not chase novelty or applause, but serve the word when the moment is welcome and when it is not.
Sound doctrine and patient endurance
The warning about itching ears does not excuse harshness or panic. Timothy is told to stay sober, endure hardship, do evangelistic work, and fulfill his ministry with patient instruction.

- The apostolic gospel is finalPaul and Jude describe the apostles' message as a trust to guard. So any later revelation can be tested by one question: does it preach the same gospel?
- Public revelation and prophetic testsThe Torah and the apostles give public tests for anyone who claims to speak for God: agreement with earlier revelation, loyalty to the one God, and predictions that come true.
